Obesity

If a dog is 15% over its ideal weight, it is classified as obese. This is currently true of about 50% of pet dogs. Overweight puppies are more likely to be obese in later life. In addition, spayed and neutered dogs are more prone to being overweight; the same is true of less active older dogs.

Conditions

Overweight dogs are often lethargic, listless and are at a greater risk of health problems such as skin diseases, joint and heart problems. It is therefore wise, if your dog suffers from or is starting to suffer from obesity, to choose a reliable diet food.

TROVET WRD Weight Reduction Diet

TROVET WRD Weight Reduction Diet is low in calories and contains a higher content of dietary fibre. These precautions (in a modest portion size) benefit the stomach, filling it for longer. As a result, your dog is less hungry and less inclined to beg for food. This low-calorie diet is low in fat, but is sufficient in essential fatty acids and contains special, slowly digested carbohydrates as absorbable sugars, so blood glucose levels remain constant. The diet stimulates the action of the intestines, preventing blockages, and the indigestible fibre in the diet absorbs water to ensure firm stools.

Use

Use TROVET Weight & Diabetic WRD until the desired weight is reached. For diabetic dogs, separate the daily ration into 3 to 5 portions to minimise fluctuation of blood sugar levels. TROVET Weight & Diabetic WRD is a complete diet that can be used to control a dog's weight indefinitely.

Optimum body weight

When and if the desired weight is reached, you can choose to switch to a maintenance feed such as Trovet MXF or continue to give TROVET WRD to prevent a recurrence of weight issues. Trovet WRD can also be recommended by your veterinarian for colonic diarrhoea, constipation or diabetes.
